Ivan Cavallari, Artistic Director at the West Australian Ballet, stepped out of his comfort zone this week and audio described part of The Sleeping Beauty ballet for clients of the Association.
The matinee performance is part of a new initiative in 2010, made possible with the help of a Lotterywest grant, for West Australian Ballet to trial a series of community matinees tailored specially for community groups.
Prior to the matinee on Wednesday 15 September, patrons who are blind or vision impaired will be mailed an audio described recording that supplements the performance, which will include music and description of the scenes. The description was recorded by Artistic Director, Ivan Cavallari.
Cavallari says, ‘My wish is to provide as many West Australians as possible the chance to experience beauty and diversity...a significant repertoire and some of the best artists in the world...it is my hope that I can give the opportunity for even more people to join an amazing ride.'
‘We are so happy to be able to provide our clients with an audio description of the music prior to the performance,' said Dr Margaret Crowley Chief Executive Officer at the Association.
‘By listening to the recording provided, our clients can hear the musical score for The Sleeping Beauty, which will be overlaid with a synopsis of the story. The music and story will then correlate with one another. This is just one way we can assist our clients to enjoy the experience of the ballet to the fullest,' continues Dr Crowley.
The West Australian Ballet are inviting clients of the Association to attend this special matinee performance free of charge. To book complimentary tickets for yourself and one companion please contact the Duty Officer on 08 9311 8202.
