Welcome to the Association for the Blind of WA – Guide Dogs WA

Guide Dogs visit for McHappy Day

Guide Dogs WA helped celebrate McHappy Day, Ronald McDonald House Charities' largest annual fundraiser, by attending McDonald's restaurants on Saturday 12 November.

Guide Dog puppies-in-training and their dedicated Puppy Raisers attended the South Perth,Canning Vale and Innaloo restaurants to meet customers and celebrate the momentous day.

The partnership between McDonald's WA and the Association for the Blind of WA - Guide Dogs WA began in October when McDonald's sponsored two tiny pups, Mac and Angus, to become Guide Dogs to help people in WA who are blind or vision impaired.

As part of the two-year partnership with the Association McDonald's has committed to sponsoring four puppies as well as its core initiatives, including its Audio Described DVD library.

"It was great to attend McHappy Day. The restaurants had such a fun, vibrant atmosphere and the pups loved it!" said Glenda Buckley, Puppy Raiser for Guide Dogs WA.

McDonald's Licensee, Terry Krysyna said more than 6,500 crew and managers in WA played a part in the naming of the first two pups, Angus and Mac.

"We have a real and genuine connection with these puppies. Our crew, managers and customers are keen to watch as they grow into Guide Dogs," said Mr Krysyna.

With the WA community's support this year, McDonald's celebrated McHappy Day in style, with initial tallies revealing the Day surpassed the national fundraising target of $3 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities - the most successful fundraising result in McHappy Day's history.
