Rio Tinto Hope Downs 1 recently sponsored the Association's latest puppy recruit, Hope. Hope entered the program in August 2010 at the age of 8 weeks. Being the sponsor of Guide Dog Hope is a new initiative for Hope Downs 1.

‘We are so happy that Hope Downs is the most recent addition to our Guide Dog Sponsor program. Being diagnosed with a vision impairment can be a scary time. We believe there are few things that can change someone's life as profoundly as a Guide Dog,' said Dr Margaret Crowley, Chief Executive Officer at the Association.
‘I think Hope is such a suitable name, because a Guide Dog really does give new hope to its owner. We look forward to watching Hope actively grow and learn throughout our Guide Dog program.'
‘Sponsoring a Guide Dog can open a whole new world of opportunity for people who are blind or vision impaired. We thank Hope Downs 1 for making this possible,' continues Dr Crowley.
The Guide Dog program currently receives no government funding, and without the generous support of sponsors it would be impossible to provide this incredible gift of independence and mobility to Western Australians who are blind or vision impaired. Each Guide Dog costs up to $35,000 dollars to raise and train.
