Three graduating Guide Dog Teams celebrated the recent completion of their training at a Babbingur Graduation Ceremony on the evening of Thursday 9 September 2010.
Paul Crestani, Marcia Truman and Jacqui Underwood together with their Guide Dogs Navarone, Gracie and Jet, joined family and friends in marking the beginning of their journey together.
After rigorous screening, intensive training and a careful matching process, a special partnership is formed between owner and Guide Dog, opening the door to a whole new world of possibilities. Babbingur Ceremonies are a celebration of this partnership.
At the ceremony, Guide Dogs Instructors took the opportunity to thank each dog's sponsors and volunteer Puppy Raisers, who look after the puppies before they begin their formal training.
‘The feeling of seeing an owner and Guide Dog walk away side by side, knowing what this independence means for someone living without sight, is hard to put into words,' said a current sponsor.
‘I know how much hard work goes into training a Guide Dog, and I've been able see first hand just what a difference it makes.'
We are the principal provider of Guide Dogs in Western Australia. Western Australia was the first state to introduce Guide Dogs, with the establishment of Australia's first Guide Dog training school in Perth in 1951.
