Early Intervention
It's never too early to seek assistance for a child with vision impairment. We see children from birth to 6 years of age in our Early Intervention Program.
Our program provides individual and group services at our Perron Centre in Victoria Park and in the home and community. Programs are designed to meet the needs of children with vision impairment and their families by bringing together a range of therapists and professionals with specialist knowledge and skills in vision impairment.
Individual therapy and assessment programs include:
- Orthoptic assessment
- Psychology services
- Occupational therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Early childhood teaching
- Orientation and mobility
- Speech pathology.
Group programs include playgroup, parent education, skills development and the Kindergarten Program.
Kindergarten Program
We offer a Kindergarten program in the Perron Early Learning Centre for children aged from three to five years. This innovative program offers places for up to fourteen children and covers core early learning areas. We provide opportunities for children to interact with computers and technology at the Variety Children's Resource Centre and use resources available in the Geoff Gallop Braille and Talking Book Library.
Referrals
We accept referrals from parents, teachers, medical specialists, allied health professionals and child health nurses. Please contact us to discuss.
For Children without Vision Impairment - Perron Early Learning Centre
The Perron Early Learning Centre also enrolls children without vision impairment. The centre enrols 3 year olds at the beginning of each school year. Enrolments are accepted 12 months prior to eligibility and are finalized in the November of the year before commencement. Please be aware that availability of places fluctuates each year and that priority will be given to children with vision impairment, their siblings and then to children not attending other kindergarten programs.
