Features include:
- Full navigation of the book structure (dependent on book markup)
- Fast forward and rewind of audio content with user specified time intervals.
- Platform independent transfer of books via built-in FTP server.
- Bookmarking with automatic save and resume of playback position on a per book basis.
- Easy selection of available books by title.
- Large, easy to recognise icons
- Fully Voiceover accessible
- Book size only limited by device capacity.
- Simple, intuitive interface.
The cost for DaisyWorm is A$4.99 or about US$4.50. Full information can be found on the iTunes website.
DaisyWorm will play non-protected DAISY full audio and full text/full audio books on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This includes books from the talking book library of Association for the Blind of Western Australia and the Vision Australia library, as well as most other talking books libraries worldwide including the CNIB in Canada, RNIB in the United Kingdom, RNZFB in New Zealand and TPB in Sweden.
At this time DaisyWorm is unable to play digital talking books from the U.S. National Library Service or Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic in the United States due to the use of digital rights management schemes by those agencies.
Future free upgrades will include user bookmarks, playback speed control and support for DAISY text only books. A DaisyWorm User Manual we be available on our website soon.
The Bovine Browser
A Browser Overcoming Vision Impairment in a Navigation Environment
The Bovine Browser was developed as a result of funding provided by the Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA) Foundation to the Association for the Blind of WA, in partnership with Curtin University of Technology.
The project focused on the development of a customised web browser interface for people with disabilities, with particular emphasis on people who are vision impaired. Created for the Mac using Objective-C and Cocoa, the publicly available application parses (examines closely by breaking it up into its components) HTML web pages and presents them in an accessible format.
The interface allows the user to input a valid web address and the server side application would re-render the given website based on predetermined settings. The reformatted page will then be presented to the user.
The Bovine Brower will run on Mac OS X 10.4 or later and is freely distributable.
