Everyday tasks can be made easier with the assistance of both low tech and high tech solutions. You can visit the Association’s Shop at 61 Kitchener Avenue, Victoria Park for purchase and demonstration of products.

The Association offers information about a wide range of daily living and computer-based equipment. This includes equipment to assist with activities like cooking, pouring a cup of tea, sewing and handling money.

We also demonstrate and sell large print and Braille watchers, magnifiers, telescopes, lamps and lighting options, video magnifiers and closed circuit television systems that help with reading and writing. A range of electronic braille devices, screen magnification and screen reader software can be trialled and solutions recommended to meet each individual's needs.

Client and large print cookbookUsing technology for independence

Vision loss can mean isolation in a world that relies heavily on sight for information and communication. The Association's Technology, Employment and Information Service assists people to use technology to overcome problems with reading and writing, or to develop essential job skills in order to obtain employment. Today's technology can enable people who are blind or vision impaired to read and write printed material, keep a diary, telephone directory or household budget, or even surf the Internet! Computers can be adapted to be used by people with little or no vision, through the use of technology to magnify or speak screen information, or present it as Braille.

Electronic print magnifiers and text-to-speech scanners can provide access to everything in print, from the telephone directory and the newspaper, to the gas or electricity bill. Assistive technology can provide independence in accessing information for vision impaired people of all ages.

Our expert technical staff can provide advice and support to assist people who are blind or vision impaired, employers, or other organisations to select and install appropriate assistive technology. We maintain, repair and upgrade assistive technology equipment for use in the home or workplace.
