As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to escalate globally and in Australia we want to provide an update to the programs at Guide Dogs WA.
The Guide Dogs WA office in Victoria Park will close to the public and staff at 5pm on Friday 27 March 2020. The safety and wellbeing of all our clients, volunteers, dogs and staff remain our priority, so we are adapting what we do in order to ensure the continuation of services to Western Australians who are living with low vision, disability and illness.
From this time, all staff and dogs will be working remotely from their homes, and are contactable via email, telephone and through video conferencing. (see details below).
What does this mean in practice?
With all face to face events and community engagement activities postponed at least until the end of financial year, we will be running a digital Emergency Appeal and a virtual Street Appeal in the next few weeks so please keep an eye out for these appeals, we need your support to be able to continue providing these life-changing services to Western Australians.
The 42 pups and dogs in the training program will continue to grow, learn, develop and be taught the skills that will ensure they can provide a lifetime of freedom, independence and companionship to our clients. Every dog being trained at Guide Dogs WA will change a life.
Clients and their working Guide or Assistance Dogs
Our Clients and their working Guide and Assistance Dogs will continue to receive aftercare services via phone and online from our trainers. In the event of an after-hours emergency, clients are able to contact our emergency helpline on 0401 189 153.
Volunteer Puppy Raisers and Boarders
Our volunteer Puppy Raisers and Boarders are integral to the training programs at Guide Dogs WA and provide an amazing love and support to all the dogs in the training program.
Our younger pups will continue to work with their Puppy Raisers and receive online and phone support from our Puppy Development Team. In the event of an after-hours emergency, puppy raisers can contact our emergency helpline on 0401 189 153.
The dogs who usually attend ‘school’ each day will live and work with our trainers. We sincerely thank all our formal and temporary boarders for their commitment and look forward to enlisting your wonderful support again soon.
Please continue to support the pups and dogs on their two year journey from playful pup to working dog. They need you! Please Donate Today.
Our clients, pups and dogs still need your support!
