Guide Dogs WA has partnered with the Think Fragile X Foundation to launch the Buddy Dogs for Kids program, which will provide Companion, Autism Assistance and Therapy Dogs for children.
These highly-skilled dogs offer families, schools and hospitals a number of benefits, including early intervention training to facilitate independence, the skills to manage challenging situations and most importantly added safety when out in the community. These dogs promote positive social interaction and assist in the development of the skills used to enable participation in community, social and recreational activities.
Every dog makes a difference
Professor Andrew Whitehouse from the Telethon Kids Institute will be conducting research to evaluate how the Buddy Dogs for Kids program will improve the lives of the families involved, to ensure the long-term sustainability of this exciting new program.
